Uuttar Pradesh lies on the eastern side of delhi .it has a common border with china,Tibet and Nepal in the north .himachal Pradesh, haryana, delhi ,rajasthan ,Madhya Pradesh and bihar are its neighbours.
In the northen parts of uttar Pradesh stretch the great Himalayan mountains.naini tal,mussoorie, almora and ranikhet are the famous hill-station of the state. In the kumaon hills near ram nagar ,there is a famous wildlife sanctuary. It is known as the Corbett national park .here we can see wild animals in their natural surroundings.no one is allowed to harm them .at the foot of these ranges stretches a marshay region called tarai.
The capital of uttar Pradesh is lucknow .it is a historical city on the river gomati. It is known for its museums and imam baras.
Uttar Pradesh has a number of industrial towns and holy places as well .sugar ,textiles, paper ,leather goods are the important industries of uttar Pradesh .the government has also set up a number of big industries like, aircraft,machine tools ,fertilizers ,locomotives ,etc .in uttar Pradesh.
Kanpur is a big industrial city on the banks of the ganga .it has many mills where cotton and woolen cloth ,sugar and leather goods are made .it also has an aircraft factory .
Agra is famous all over the world for the beautiful taj mahal. Made by shah jahan in memory of his wife mumtaz mahal,it is the most beautiful tomb in the world. Agra is also known for the manufacture of shoes and leather goods .there are paper mills at saharanpur.
River ganga is the most holy river of the hindus .along the ganga are several holy places like badrinath haridwar ,rishikesh ,ayodhya,varanasi,mathura ,etc.the ganga and the yamuna meet at allahabad ,also called prayag.the place where two or more rivers joins is known as the confluence or sangam. Once in every twelve years the famous kumbh mela is held here .it is the oldest fair in the world.
Varanasi is one of the oldest cities of India .it is a holy place of pilgrimage of the hindus .the bathing ghats of varansi are very sacred to the hindus .there is a big diesel locomotive factory at varansi. The silk sarees varanasi are famous all over the country .near varanasi is sarnath. It is a very sacred places for the Buddhists. Ayodhya is the birthplace of lord rama .brindavan and mathura ,the birthplace of lord Krishna are on the banks of the river yamuna. There is a big oil refinery near mathura .an atomic energy centre has been set up at narora near bulandshahar.
